Association given task to help Sufiah
THE Government has given the task of helping Maths prodigy Sufiah Yusof, who was reported to have turned to prostitution, to the Malay Community Association of United Kingdom , according to Sinar Harian.
It has since stopped its “Save Sufiah” campaign launched in April after reports of the girl's “occupation” appeared in a London newspaper.
Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim said it was difficult for the Government to help Sufiah due to certain restrictions.
“The biggest restriction was that we were unable to access her data,” said Dr Mashitah.
Other restrictions include her foreign citizenship and her own family’s difficulty in contacting her.
Sufiah, whose mother Halimaton Yusof is from Muar, Johor, made headlines when she was accepted to Oxford University at age 13.
